Summary

Detective Paige Whiskey comes from a long line of witches. They may not all be the most powerful, but they are outspoken and supportive of their community. She alone has no gifts. She can’t summon fire, can’t read minds. She knows the arcane. She’s studied it. That, along with her connection to the Whiskey Witches, lands her some pretty strange cases.

Like the sacrificial murders of St. Francisville, Louisiana. There’s a killer on the loose, choosing people in a vain attempt to raise a demon. Not just any demon, though. A man born long ago, made a demon in order to protect the Gate to Hell.

Together with demon hunter, Dexx Colt, her kitchen-witch grandmother, and her paranormal investigator brother-in-law, they unravel a conspiracy far bigger than a few simple murders, and re-discover Paige’s gift.

She’s a demon summoner and she’s key to the killer’s plan.

Summary

Going back to Denver should have been easy. Old life. Old routine. Ten kinds of “all good.”

However, with her gifts open, the paranormal world isn’t going to let her have that easy life. It turns out her partner of the last five years is a vampire and has been for several decades. He’s also the regional paranormal protector.

So when a few shapeshifters go missing, he gets the case.

But there’s also a demon killing those shapeshifters, a demon she can’t hunt because she’s still an open target for possession.

Not to complicate matters, Dexx isn’t about to let Paige out of his sights. Bringing a demon hunter to a shapeshifter party only makes things that much more interesting. But when he gets bitten, the entire game changes.

Excerpt

By the time they walked out of the restaurant, the buzz from the wine was gone. Paige still felt a little less constrained, so she knew the alcohol was still in her system. However, it wasn’t controlling her, and that’s what mattered.

“Do you hear that?” Dexx stopped, his head cocked.

The spring night air was crisp and cold. She pulled her black leather jacket a little tighter around her and looked around. “No.” But then she did.

A scuffle. Someone grunted. Another person growled.

She glanced at Dexx and headed in the direction of the sounds. She unzipped her jacket and drew her weapon.

Dexx jogged around a dark SUV and slowed to a stop, tipping his head to the side with a confused frown.

Paige clicked off the safety of her Baby Eagle and turned the corner of the vehicle.

Two men fought in the patch of grass between the parked cars, but something was off with both of them.

The one man had fangs.

The other was a bit hairier than average, had elongated claws and ears. And was growling.

Paige stepped into the grass and leaned in. “Gentlemen?”

The fanged man stopped, his well-polished city shoes gleaming in the overhead street light. He pulled his lips over his fangs and narrowed his glowing green eyes at the other man.

A woman wearing a skimpy dress and high heels peeled herself out of the shadows, her hands raised. “It’s okay. I’ve already called the cops. You can—” The woman, tall, blonde and gorgeous, smiled and flicked one well-manicured hand. “—leave. There is nothing to see here.”

“You called the cops?” Paige stared at the hairy man.

His eyes glowed yellow when he turned and faced her, and he had more than fangs. He had two rows of sharp teeth that made him look more doglike.

How were the cops supposed to handle something like that?

“Rosy, Rosy, Rosy,” a familiar voice said behind her.

Paige blinked, her mind scrambling to figure out a lie to tell her partner.

Whoa! Her partner? What was he doing here?

“What have I told you? Keep your dog on a shorter leash.”

Tony entered the spot of light.

His words registered and the mind-scrambling stopped. Paige raised her chin, a frown furrowing her brows. “Guerrerro.”

He froze, staring at her, his eyes wide. “Whiskey.”

The hairy man stood, his face morphing into human. “That’s your partner?”

Paige stared at the man. How’d he do that? But she knew better than to ask that question. She turned to Fang Man instead. “What happened out here?”

“We were just having a friendly argument.”

“Then why did Rosy feel the need to call the cops?”

“She didn’t call the cops. She called me.” Tony stepped toward Paige, his hands raised. “Care to put the gun away?”

“When you explain to me what’s going on here.”

Tony slid his dark gaze to Rosy. “Take your dog somewhere outside the city limits. I don’t want to see him anymore.”

The woman sighed. “It’s hard to break them in out there, Tee. You know that.”
“Not here, Rose. All right?”

“Fine. Fine. Fine. Come on, Pete.” Rosy’s high-heeled steps disappeared around the truck.

Tony turned to Fang Man. “And you?”

“Just teaching the pup a lesson.”

“In public.”

“It wasn’t public until your partner showed up.”

Tony dropped his chin and sighed, his lips flat.

Fang Man rolled his eyes and walked away, throwing his hands in the air. “Fine.

Seriously, man, we need to get you a new job.”

Once everyone had left in their vehicles, Tony turned back to Paige.

By that time, she’d safetied and re-holstered her weapon.

Dexx stood at her back, quiet, but ready.

“Okay.” Paige crossed her arms over her chest. “Tell me what just happened.”
